A Europop version of Mozart’s ‘The Marriage of Figaro’

Have you ever wanted hear what Mozart’s ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ would sound like if processed through a European gumball factory and then pumped full of helium? We didn’t think so. And yet, try averting your eyes from the music video above, in which Mozart’s masterpiece is mercilessly tickled to death, Europop-style.
The clip, forwarded to us by a friend of Culture Monster, gives the aria ‘Non so più cosa son’ from ‘Marriage’ a high-gloss, candy-colored makeover courtesy of the Belgian label Adya Classics. To hear Mozart’s aria as it was intended to be performed, check out mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade in a Paris staging in 1980.
Classical masterpieces that have served as fodder for pop remix artists include Barber’s ‘Adagio for Strings,’ Beethoven’s ‘Fur Elise’ and Orff’s ‘Carmina Burana’ -- all of them transformed into techno dance-floor hits.
