Bolefloor curved-plank flooring coming to the U.S.

Dutch manufacturer Bolefloor is bringing a remarkably different type of hardwood floor to the U.S. -- one whose planks sport organic curves instead of the usual straight edges. Previously available only in Europe, Bolefloor is to premiere here this spring. The company touts not only the aesthetic beauty but also the environmental advantages: Compared with traditional milling processes, the curved edges allow 20% more of each sawed plank to be used.

Bolefloor comes in oak, ash, cherry, maple and walnut. Prices aren’t cheap: about $11 to $21 per square foot, depending on the wood and grade. The planks are roughly 9 feet long and come unfinished or oiled, ready to glue down. (Those curious how curved flooring is installed can watch the video below.)

Bolefloor’s first U.S. manufacturing plant is in Sacramento, and the product should be available in May, according to Bolefloor Chief Executive Rain Eisler.
