Gold: Trading now at $1,348 per ounce, down 1.6% from Wednesday. Dow Jones industrial average: Trading now at 11,762.17, down 0.5% from Wednesday.
Good numbers, bad markets. Promising data was released Thursday morning about housing, unemployment and forward-looking economic indicators -- but it wasn’t enough to pull up markets worried about rising interest rates.
Morgan Stanley surprise. Wall Street’s number two, Morgan Stanley, surprised analysts with stronger earnings, a day after its main competitor, Goldman Sachs, disappointed.
Wall Street’s union defender. Blackstone took a stand on behalf of public-sector unions, one of the main sources of money at the giant asset manager.
