Kings defenseman Denis Gauthier has been suspended two games by the NHL for making contact with the Sharks’ Patrick Marleau on an icing play in Thursday’s game at San Jose.
It’s the second suspension this season for Gauthier, who had to sit five games for a nasty hit to the head of Montreal’s Josh Gorges on Jan. 31. It is believed to be his fifth league-imposed suspension.
Gauthier will forfeit $22,580.64 to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund. He will be eligible to return for the Kings’ game Wednesday at Philadelphia.
