MLB draft: Matt Hobgood goes No. 5 to the Baltimore Orioles

Norco High pitcher Matt Hobgood has become the first Southland product selected in the amateur draft, going No. 5 overall to the Baltimore Orioles.

Hobgood, the Gatorade national player of the year, was 11-1 on the mound for Norco and also hit 21 home runs.

He’s 6 feet 4, weighs 250 pounds and is known for his maturity and ability to handle pressure situations.
