Some Orange County things that jumped out at me in Week 2:
- Allan Bridgford threw for 322 yards, a Mission Viejo school record, in a 44-14 victory over Carlsbad La Costa Canyon. Who knew the record had been held by Joe Schulte, who tossed for 320 in 1982?
- Clark Evans passed for 302 yards and rushed for 102 more to lead Los Alamitos past Dana Hills, 27-10. That’s an Aaron Corp-type performance.
- Fountain Valley’s 47-14 victory over Garden Grove Pacifica was the Barons’ third consecutive 40-point game. They have outscored opponents 150-24. It’s good they are learning how to win, but the three teams FV has beaten have a combined record of 1-7, and none of them are of Sunset League-caliber.
- Laguna Hills scored its game-winning drive in a 13-8 victory over Trabuco Hills in the fourth quarter behind junior Jack Michelman after Ryan Wertenberger was knocked out of the game in the third quarter It’s a great gut-check moment for the Hawks.
- Tim Smith scored four touchdowns as University defeated Ocean View, ,42-14. It was the 100th career victory for Coach Mark Cunningham.
- Dejon Deason rushed for 281 yards and four touchdowns as Orange beat Magnolia, 48-34. I’m impressed that Magnolia scored 34 points.
- Martin Henderson
