Long Beach Poly not only beat Carson, 38-9, but also, Mother Nature.

A pleasant evening in Long Beach ended with rain in the immediate forecast.

I knew this once I left Veterans Stadium, drove about 15 miles north on the 405 freeway, and started seeing intermittent raindrops on my windshield and lightning strikes in the sky, with a full-fledged storm obviously headed south. I knew this because I was heading right into it, those raindrops turning increasingly into watery pebbles the closer I got to home.

Thankfully, I was safely ensconced in my car instead of standing in the middle of the football field as I’d been a half-hour earlier, so I sat back, drove a little more slowly, and just enjoyed the show.

It was the second one of the night, after the command performance put on by Poly in the opening act.
