19 Arrested in Gang, Drug Raids

Los Angeles police today raided 16 residences in an anti-gang and anti-drug sweep that resulted in 19 arrests and the confiscation of 11 guns and about 20 grams of “rock” cocaine worth $2,000 on the street. One murder suspect was also arrested.
The early-morning raids--almost all of which took place in a gang-infested, three-square-mile area of Southwest Los Angeles--were in response to numerous complaints by residents about violence in their neighborhoods that resulted in 18 murders last year, said Lt. Sam Dacus, head of the Police Department’s anti-gang detail in the southern part of the city.
