A Newport Beach man died from a shotgun blast to his abdomen and his female live-in companion was gravely wounded in what police called a double-suicide attempt. Rolando Pacho, 22, and Denice Schaefer, 19, of 535 Baywood Ave., were discovered by police and rushed to the Fountain Valley Hospital trauma center. Pacho died shortly after arrival, while Schaefer was listed in critical condition after several hours of surgery, police said. Detectives are continuing to investigate.
