Bentley, Silva Named Athletes of Year

Steve Bentley, Golden West College swimmer, and Alani Silva, Santa Ana College softball player, have been named the Orange County Community College Athletes of the Year by local sports information directors.
Bentley set a national community college record in the 200-yard breaststroke this spring with a time of 2:03.42 and helped lead the Rustlers to the state championship.
Silva compiled a 26-2 record as a pitcher and batted .400 for the state champion Dons. She hit the decisive home run and pitched a shutout in Santa Ana’s title-clinching win over rival Fullerton.
Ken Hamdorf, Golden West swimming and assistant water polo coach, was named men’s Coach of the Year and Jim Reach, Santa Ana softball coach, was named women’s Coach of the Year.
