The Region : 3 Face Murder Charges in Escape Effort

Three jail inmates involved in a May escape attempt from the Santa Monica courthouse will be charged with murder in the death of a fourth inmate, the district attorney’s office announced. The three, Eric Martin, James Wingfield and Thomas Gadson, are charged with murder in the death of inmate Derrick Harris, who was shot to death by a sheriff’s deputy during the incident. The three inmates will also be charged with assault and battery as a result of injuries suffered by four sheriff’s deputies during the attempted breakout, officials said.
