Cypress : Council to Take Final Vote on City’s Budget

The Cypress City Council will take a final vote on the city’s 1985-86 budget at its meeting Monday night.
The proposed budget is 7% larger than the current one, said the council’s recording secretary, Terry Moore. The new $12-million budget includes a 14% increase in operating costs, but if a $600,000 street maintenance program is excluded, then operating costs increase only 7%.
In addition, two more police officers and a jailer-property clerk, who will handle bookings, are included in order to increase the amount of time officers spend in the field.
The city also is preparing for the expected loss of federal revenue-sharing funds. Cypress now receives $200,000 annually through this program.
Monday’s meeting will be in the council chambers at the Civic Center at 7:30 p.m.
