Councilman Gilbert W. Lindsay, representing downtown Los Angeles, received the Spirit of Los Angeles award last week from the Los Angeles Headquarters City Assn.
Also honored at the 24th annual awards luncheon at the Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion were TRW, the Los Angeles Athletic Club and the Pep Boys.
Ed Goldberg, vice president of TRW’s defense systems group, accepted the award for the firm’s “consistent leadership in technological research, engineering and development contributing to the economic vitality of Los Angeles.”
Athletic club chairman Frank G. Hathaway accepted the award honoring the club’s 100th anniversary and Scott I. Rosen, executive vice president of Pep Boys, accepted the award citing the firm’s decision to stay in downtown Los Angeles. The 59,800-square-foot Pep Boys headquarters, designed by Widom/Wein & Partners Inc., was completed in May at Washington Boulevard and Hoover Street.
Robert Dockson, a former winner of the Spirit of Los Angeles award, cited Lindsay’s years of distinguished service and dedication to the economic and cultural development of downtown Los Angeles. About 700 persons attended the event.
