Deputy Police Chief David Dotson, the Los Angeles Police Commission’s services coordinator, has been named an assistant chief of police. A 27-year veteran, Dotson replaces Assistant Chief Marvin Iannone, who retired this month to become chief of the Beverly Hills Police Department. Police Chief Daryl F. Gates has yet to make known which of the three assistant chief positions Dotson will fill. When he left, Iannone was director of operations, which ran the largest command in the Police Department.
