The Central City Assn., a nonprofit group of 225 downtown Los Angeles businesses, presented its first annual “City of the Angels” award to Rodney W. Rood, chairman of the association and vice president-assistant to the chairman at Atlantic Richfield Co.
Five other men received the association’s “Leadership and Achievement” awards, including Stephen Gavin, chairman of Gavin, Abel & Flanigan; Robert M. Foster, general manager of the Sheraton Grande hotel; Frank J. Rice, former vice president-public affairs for Bullock’s; Gerald D. Foster, regional vice president for Pacific Bell, and Wayne Ratkovich, president of Ratkovich, Bowers & Perez.
Additionally, actor Gregory Peck received a special commendation for his work, including volunteer efforts last year for the association’s “Big Picture,” a giant photograph of 16,000 “downtown” people to herald the Summer Olympics.
