San Diego County : 2 Brush Fires Burn in County

Two fires blackened nearly 1,000 acres in remote areas of San Diego County on Saturday, but no one was injured and no structures were damaged, a California Department of Forestry spokeswoman said.
About four miles of Highway 67 in the Slaughterhouse Canyon area of Lakeside were closed for several hours Saturday when the blaze jumped that stretch of road as it moved east toward the San Vicente Reservoir, the spokeswoman said.
Nearly 300 firefighters battled the blaze that burned about 750 acres. By 9 p.m. it was only 20% contained but appeared to be heading for an area that was scorched by fire a month ago.
A second fire, near the Father Junipero Serra Trail in Mission Gorge blackened more than 200 acres. About 100 firefighters, aided by helicopters that dropped fire repellent, contained the fire Saturday evening.
