Garden Grove’s Kathy Butler became the first Orange County bowler ever to qualify for the International Bowling Federation American Zone Championships by placing sixth at the U.S. Team Trials at Milwaukee Saturday.
Butler, 25, bowled a 220 to take the sixth and final spot at the eighth biennial trials, held at the Red Carpet Lanes in Milwaukee. Only the top six qualifiers advance to the zone championships, to be held Sept. 18-29 in Bogota, Colombia.
Butler, the only California resident on the team, will continue bowling in Garden Grove until the championships in September.
