A motorist who may have fallen asleep crashed into a slow-moving tractor-trailer rig on the Golden State Freeway in Castaic and was killed in the fiery crash, the California Highway Patrol reported. A passenger in the man’s car, Robert Peyton, 55, of Bakersfield, suffered moderate injuries in the early morning crash. CHP Officer Dan Loughrey said the motorist, a man in his 50s, was driving south on the freeway and may have fallen asleep when he slammed into the rear of a tractor-trailer less than a mile from the Lake Hughes off-ramp. The motorist, reportedly burned beyond recognition, was not immediately identified.
