LONDON — A full-scale emergency alert was ordered at London’s Heathrow Airport on Sunday when an incoming British Airways Boeing 737 reported a fault in one of its two engines, then landed safely on one engine, airport sources said.
The sources said firemen followed the plane as it taxied to a halt.
The incident came three days after a British Airtours Boeing 737 jet crashed on takeoff at Manchester airport, killing 54 people. U.S. experts said the crash occurred after the failure of a combustion chamber in its port engine.
