In the first week of the new school year, the Pasadena Unified School District was still trying to recruit teachers for six secondary and five elementary positions. Personnel Director James Lee told the Board of Education this week that 84 new teachers have been hired, most of them to fill vacated positions. The district has approximately 1,000 teachers for its 22,000 students and has an enrollment that is increasing in the primary grades. Lee said substitute teachers are being used until the positions are filled.
