Judge George F. Bason Jr., the federal bankruptcy judge overseeing the reorganization of the beleaguered news agency, said UPI’s investment advisers told him that the news agency has received “some 25 offers, including very substantial proposals from very well-heeled individuals.” UPI set a deadline for offers of last week. Bason did not identify any of the suitors, but the Associated Press reported that at least three individuals have acknowledged an interest: Beurt R. SerVaas, chairman of Curtis Publishing Co.; Joseph Russo, a Houston developer, and Max Hugel, a New Hampshire businessman.
