Arson is suspected in the Sunday blaze that destroyed the building that once housed the topless bar A.J.’s, at Rosecrans Street and Midway Drive, according to a San Diego Fire Department investigator.
All other possible causes for the fire, which resulted in $350,000 damage, have been eliminated, said Don Necochea, a Fire Department investigator.
Necochea said witnesses pointed to the exact spot where the fire began, and investigators found nothing there that would have ignited the blaze, leaving them to believe arson was the cause. Four workmen were in the building when the fire started. No one was injured in the blaze. The investigation is continuing, Necochea said.
