Oops--Rome Police Blow the Doors Off U.S. General’s Car

ROME — Police at Rome airport today blew open the doors of an armored Mercedes auto suspected of having false license plates, only to discover that the car belonged to a top American general.
The car had been parked at Leonardo da Vinci Airport while its owner, Gen. James Brown, commander of the NATO allied air forces in southern Europe, caught a flight, police said.
When the general’s driver returned from the departure lounge an hour later, the car’s doors had been blown off and it was being searched by police.
