Chapman Women Lose Volleyball Opener

Clara Piersma had 10 kills to lead Cal Poly Pomona to a 15-12, 16-14, 8-15, 15-6 win over Chapman College in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. women’s volleyball opener Tuesday night in Hutton Sports Center.
Pomona (1-0, 13-5), ranked second in the nation among NCAA Division 2 teams, came back from a 14-13 deficit in the pivotal second game.
Senior outside hitter Pam Winokur had 15 kills for Chapman (0-1, 10-6).
In nonconference action:
Southern California College 3, Redlands 0--Seniors Carolyn Kienast and Beth Longfield combined for 20 kills to lead the Vanguards to their first win of the season, 15-9, 15-7, 15-11.
