Irvine Edges Cal, USC in Water Polo

No. 2 UC Irvine edged California and USC in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn.-Pacific 10 water polo tournament at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach Saturday as J.R. Salvatore scored 11 goals, his best offensive performance of the season.
UCI beat the Golden Bears, 12-11, on Greg Wilson’s goal with 2:08 remaining in the second overtime period. The PCAA-leading Anteaters (16-5) also had to go into overtime to defeat the Trojans, 13-12. Salvatore’s scored the winning goal with 16 seconds left.
The Anteaters’ Jeff Campbell contributed seven goals Saturday, including four versus USC, and goalie Mark Maizel had 9 saves against Cal and 13 against USC.
