A climber injured in a 10-foot fall was rescued by helicopter after spending the night on Yosemite National Park’s North Dome. A California Highway Patrol helicopter picked up Thomas Gibson, 43, of Running Springs, and evacuated him to Yosemite Medical Clinic for treatment of lower leg injuries and hypothermia. His climbing companion, Dan Freeman of Costa Mesa, told park rangers that Gibson fell while they were climbing the peak Friday night and hurt his leg and ankle. After the two men completed their climb in the dark, Freeman went for help and Gibson spent the night on North Dome. He was wearing two layers of clothing and used a “space” blanket for protection from overnight temperatures in the 20s and strong winds.
