Five patients died during the past six months after receiving inadequate nursing care at a Mountain View convalescent hospital, the state Health Department said. The Julia Sanitarium was fined $226,850 for 22 violations of state regulations. “We are going to recommend (to department superiors in Sacramento) that the state revoke the license of Julia Sanitarium and that the federal government terminate their agreement to treat Medicare-MediCal patients,” Mary Louise Mock, regional department administrator, said. However, a spokeswoman for the company that operates the convalescent center said a management team that began running the facility July 1 has solved the problems outlined by the state.
