Alcohol Restrictions Gain: The city moved one step closer to placing restrictions on the sale of alcohol at gasoline station mini-marts as officials gave preliminary approval Tuesday to a new ordinance. If given final approval, the ordinance will prohibit video and electronic games from such establishments, and also will ban alcohol advertising outside the building. Opponents of stores that sell both alcohol and gasoline contend that they encourage drinking while driving. Proponents argue that there is little evidence to link drunk driving to the mini-marts and say it is inconsistent to ban alcohol sales at convenience-store gas stations but not at supermarkets and other establishments.
