The State : 2 Soldiers Held in Rape
Military police held two members of an Army ranger battalion on suspicion of having kidnaped, raped and attempted to murder a San Mateo woman. The victim told police that two men with Mohawk-style haircuts forced her into their car, beat her, raped her and then dropped her off a bridge. The stream below proved to be dry, and she later managed to crawl back to the road where a passing motorist picked her up. She was reported in stable condition at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. The victim’s description of the haircuts led police to Travis Air Force Base, where the two suspects--who had been on temporary duty at Ft. Ord--were about to board an airplane to return to their unit’s regular duty station in Georgia. The suspects were not identified, pending release to civilian authorities.
