WOMEN’S BASKETBALL : Cal Lutheran, on Phillips’ Shot, Defeats Claremont-Mudd, 75-74

Junior center Gloria Phillips collected an offensive rebound and then scored the final basket with eight seconds left to edge the Cal Lutheran women’s team past Claremont-Mudd, 75-74, Saturday night.
Cal Lutheran was led by senior guard Joni Thompson, who had 24 points. Teammate Kim Peppi added 22 points and had 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
Cal Lutheran, which lost to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Friday, is now 1-1. Tuesday, Cal Lutheran will play Cal State Northridge.
CS Northridge 78, UC Davis 73--Regan O’Hara, Denise Sitton and Tara Flanagan each scored 14 points to lead the Lady Matadors to a consolation-round win over UC Davis in an exhibition tournament at UC Davis.
Rene Loch scored 13 more to even the Lady Matadors’ record at 1-1. Liz Enright led the team in rebounds with seven.
The Lady Matadors will host Cal Lutheran College on Tuesday.
