Basketball Signings--Kevin Holland, a 6-foot-7, 198-pound senior center at Cerritos High School, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at DePaul University. Holland averaged 14 points and 8 rebounds last season and made The Times’ All-Southeast team.
Jaime Cardriche, a 6-foot-8, 325-pound senior center at St. Anthony High School, has signed to play at Oklahoma State.
Julie King, a senior at Gahr High School, has signed with the University of New Mexico. King averaged 20 points a game last season and was named to The Times’ All-Southeast team.
Water Polo Tournament--The NCAA water polo championship will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach. Stanford, the No. 1-ranked team in the country, is the top-seeded team in a field that also includes Cal State Long Beach, UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Loyola of Chicago, Bucknell and Brown. The tournament starts at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon and concludes with the title game at 7:30 Sunday night. For ticket information, call (213) 438-1143.
Gaynor Sets Record--Cal State Long Beach quarterback Doug Gaynor finished the season with 322 pass completions, breaking the NCAA single-season record of 306 set in 1983 by Steve Young of Brigham Young.
