Camel Borrowed for Pageant Suffocates

WAYNESBURG, Pa. — A camel borrowed by a church for a Christmas pageant got tangled in a rope and suffocated after its first performance, church officials said.
“Everyone feels very badly about what happened,” said the Rev. David Holste of the First United Methodist Church of Waynesburg. “We have no idea of the value of the animal, but you don’t even know how you can replace such a thing.”
The southwestern Pennsylvania church borrowed the 4-year-old camel for a four-day nativity pageant.
