USIU Ends 13-Game Losing Streak

SAN DIEGO — Joe Yezbak scored 33 points Tuesday night as United States International University snapped a 13-game losing streak with a 103-94 win over UC San Diego at Triton Pavilion.

Yezbak, the country’s No. 3 scorer, also had seven rebounds and six assists as the Gulls improved to 8-18. Rade Milutinovic scored 12 points for the winners and Carl Chenault and Duane Cross each scored 11. Chenault also had 12 rebounds. The Gulls led 53-46 at halftime.

Brian Backens scored 27 and Greg Kamansky had 24 for UCSD (14-12).

USIU will conclude its season this week on the road. The Gulls will play at Utica (N.Y.) on Thursday and at Brooklyn Saturday.
