Mater Dei’s 56-Game Streak on Line Tonight

Playa del Rey St. Bernard High School will try to end Santa Ana Mater Dei’s 56-game winning streak tonight at 8:45 in the semifinals of the Southern Section 5-A boys’ basketball playoffs at the Sports Arena.

Mater Dei is 27-0 and looking for its second straight trip to the 5-A final, which the Monarchs won last season. St. Bernard (18-7) struggled in the early going but came on to finish second in the Camino Real League, behind Gardena Serra.

Preceding the St. Bernard-Mater Dei game, Serra will play Huntington Beach Edison at 7 for the right to play in Saturday’s final, also at the Sports Arena.
