Gene Upshaw, president of the NFL Players’ Assn., told the Michigan Chronicle he is upset that only black players in football have been identified as having drug problems.
“Is this just a black problem? Hell no, it’s not,” he said in the weekly newspaper. “But I’m beginning to perceive that they are the only ones caught. I’m not suggesting by any means that they go out and catch someone who’s white . . . but pretty soon it becomes obvious that every one of the known abusers are black.”
