COLLEGE SPRING HIGHLIGHTS : Sloan Does It Alone in Master’s Sweep

Terry Sloan did everything but heal the sick Tuesday afternoon, batting and pitching The Master’s College to a sweep of West Coast Christian of Fresno in an NAIA District 3 doubleheader.

All Sloan did was collect five runs batted in on six hits in eight at-bats--including the game-winning homer in the ninth inning of the second game--as well as go the distance on the mound for a seven-hitter in the first game. Along with the home run, Sloan had three doubles, a triple and a single.

In the first game, an 11-5 rout, Sloan had two doubles, a triple and was the winning pitcher. Matt MacArthur kept the day from being a one-man show by doubling with the bases loaded to key a seven-run second inning by The Master’s.

The Master’s won the second game, 5-4, when Sloan unloaded on a 3-0 pitch with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning for a solo home run that cleared the 410-foot sign in center field. He had doubled and singled earlier in the game.

The Master’s built a 4-0 lead on a homer by starting pitcher Mike Wilson, Sloan’s two-run double and an RBI single by Tony Dello. West Coast Christian tied the game in the ninth inning, but Sloan capped his performance with the game-winning homer in the bottom of the inning.

The Master’s is 5-11 overall, 2-4 in the district. West Coast Christian is 3-7 overall, 0-2 in NAIA play.
