While the gougers are out there, there are still outstanding innkeepers like Giselda Baida of La Mer or Kathleene Salisbury of Salisbury House in Los Angeles who have put great energy and creativity into providing guests a memorable, even exciting experience at a reasonable price. I don’t know how else I would ever have had the opportunity to visit in the home of an Amish carriage maker, meet the California Mother of the Year or chat with an Emmy-winning screen writer.
