The owners of Arlington Park race track, which was destroyed by fire last summer, announced in Chicago provisional plans to rebuild the facility at a new location.
The thoroughbred track would be built in the northeastern corner of Illinois near the Wisconsin border, as part of a multi-million-dollar resort center.
The owners said, however, that the plan hinges on a change in Illinois law that would lower the state pari-mutuel tax.
The old Arlington track, located in Arlington Heights, Ill., just northwest of Chicago, was destroyed by fire last summer.
