GUATEMALA CITY — An employee of Guatemala’s land registration office was shot dead by two gummen, police said Thursday.
His was the 8th slaying in almost a week of political violence apparently sparked by land reform efforts and a government anti-corruption drive.
The gunmen opened fire on Rodolfo E. Paiz Hernandez, 39, as he left home for work Wednesday, police said, killing him instantly. Earlier, six people with links to a prominent land reform advocate were killed in two separate episodes of violence, and a government department head who had attacked corruption was shot to death.
