Authorities in Whatcom County, Wash., arrested two men and a 17-year-old girl on suspicion of murdering former minor-league baseball trainer Richard Raymond Quintana, 34, of South Gate, whose body was found in a shallow desert grave in the Tahquitz Canyon area of Palm Springs. Kurt Lee Pendergrass, 21, of Blaine, Wash., Gordon Joseph Powell, 23, of Hollywood, and the girl were arrested in Blaine, near the Canadian border, by sheriff’s deputies who recognized the victim’s automobile. Palm Springs police said Quintana may have met the three suspects during the Hands Across America celebration. The victim was a former trainer with the Dodgers’ Gulf Coast League farm team in Bradenton, Fla.
