The University of Texas women’s athletic program, which produced NCAA champions in basketball, swimming and track, was named winner of the Knoxville Journal’s 1986 collegiate all-sports title.
The Lady Longhorns’ three national championships allowed them to edge USC and UCLA. The Bruins won the inaugural women’s all-sports title last year.
Texas compiled 93 points under the paper’s rating system, while Pac-10 members USC and UCLA each finished with 91 1/2 points. Stanford and Arizona State, came in fourth and fifth with 81 and 70 points, respectively.
