Temperatures Expected to Be Slightly Cooler

Average temperatures are predicted for the Independence Day holiday weekend in San Diego, as the heat and humidity of earlier in the week give way to pleasant and slightly cooler days.
“It is going to dry out a little bit at the upper levels,” National Weather Service forecaster Wally Ciegel said. “This will mean less humidity, especially in the inland areas, but there will be some increase in the amount of low clouds and fog along the coast in the morning hours.”
Thursday’s high at Lindbergh Field was 74 degrees, the exact average temperature for that date. Today’s high should reach 75.
Temperatures at the beaches will be pleasant for the anticipated large crowds, with highs ranging from 72 to 78. The ocean temperature is expected to be near 70.
The inland areas should see highs today in the 82- to 87-degree range, and between 79 and 84 Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the upper 50s.
The threat of thunderstorms in the mountain areas has diminished, according to Ciegel. Highs in the mountains are expected to reach 81, while lows will dip to 46. Desert high temperatures will be in the 98- to 104-degree range, with lows in the upper 60s.
“Hopefully the coastal clouds will stay out of the way until the late night hours, so they won’t get in the way of the fireworks,” Ciegel said. “They’ve been cooperative lately, but it’s just touch and go.”
Places scheduled to have fireworks displays tonight include San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium, Ocean Beach Pier, Sea World, La Jolla Cove, Mission Bay’s Hospitality Point, the Del Mar Fairgrounds and the J Street Pier in Chula Vista.
All types of private fireworks, including those labeled “safe and sane,” are illegal in San Diego County.
