BARCELONA, Spain — Salvador Dali, the 82-year-old Spanish surrealist painter, was recovering today after undergoing surgery to install a permanent pacemaker, his surgeon, Juan Carlos Garcia Sanmiguel, said.
He said Dali suffered heart failure Sunday and was rushed to a Barcelona clinic. Dali lives in Figueras, 43 miles north of Barcelona. Garcia Sanmiguel said the 45-minute operation was “satisfactory and without complications.” Dali has lived in seclusion since his wife, Gala, died in 1982.
