Celanese Corp. said its second-quarter earnings rose 37% over the year-ago period to $55 million. Revenue in the quarter just ended was $743 million, down 5% from last year. John D. Macomber, chairman, president and chief executive of the New York-based firm said the company benefited from a good performance by its chemical business and ongoing strength in its industrial fibers, smoking products and engineering resins.
