A 19-year-old Granada Hills youth was killed early Sunday an hour after he was given a ticket for illegally carrying two passengers on his motorcycle.
Kevin Murphy died shortly after 1 a.m. when he lost control of his 1981 Suzuki 450, crossed the center line in the 17000 block of San Fernando Mission Boulevard in Granada Hills and collided with two pickup trucks, police said.
His two passengers, Jennifer Powers, 17, and Tim Clement, 18, also of Granada Hills, were thrown to the pavement, Los Angeles police officer Roy McFall said. Powers received a fractured knee and head injuries. Clement suffered a fractured leg and other injuries. Both were reported in stable condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center. Neither of the truck drivers was injured.
Witnesses told police the motorcycle was traveling about 50 m.p.h. in a 35-m.p.h. zone when the accident occurred.
