NCR Corp., the world’s fifth-largest computer company, reported a 2.4% gain in its third-quarter profit and said it still expects to have higher earnings for 1986 than last year. The Dayton, Ohio-based firm said its worldwide orders posted “very good” gains in the third quarter and were records both for the third quarter and the nine-month period. U.S. orders, however, were off slightly as order gains for semiconductor products and personal computers were offset by softness in general purpose computers and data communications processors.
