A man who failed the California State Bar exam three times reportedly has been arrested and charged with setting the $300,000 fire that swept the Bar’s Los Angeles offices last week. The Los Angeles Daily Journal reported that UCLA graduate David Eric Friedman, 36, was arrested after security guards spotted him outside the offices of a Century City law firm carrying a bed sheet, flammable liquid and a cigarette lighter. Friedman, who had once worked for the firm, fled butwas seized by police outside as he allegedly was trying to set fire to shrubbery. Although the Oct. 5 fire at the Bar offices caused extensive damage, papers that were being graded from last July’s Bar exam were not damaged.
