Businesses of the St. Paul, Minn.-based 3M Co. continued to outperform the economies they serve, the firm said, as net income rose 23.7% and sales climbed 10.5% in the third quarter. Results also benefited from the cheaper dollar that added about $24 million to third-quarter earnings, a previously announced change in pension accounting that added about $7 million and programs to control costs and assets, Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Co. added.
