Local News in Brief : 13 Workers Treated After Inhaling Acid

Thirteen workers were treated Thursday after inhaling nitric acid, a chemical used in stripping paint, at a Sylmar aircraft parts manufacturing firm, authorities said.
The incident occurred at about 2 p.m. at Valley-Todeco Inc. in the 12900 block of Bradley Avenue, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Greg Acevedo said.
He had no details on how the chemical was released.
The victims complained of sore throats and runny noses, and two of them said they had chest pains, said Gregory Worth, a spokesman for Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, where the victims were treated.
Worth said the workers, who were driven to the hospital in private cars, will suffer no adverse, long-term effects.
