USD Tries to End Losing Streak in Football Today

SAN DIEGO — The University of San Diego football team, looking to snap a three-game losing streak, will play host to St. Mary’s College today at 1:30 p.m.
The Toreros, after winning three of their first four games, are 3-4. USD lost last week to UC Santa Barbara, 14-9. Quarterback Pat Dixon completed 15 of 33 passes and had three interceptions. For the seventh straight game, wide receiver Jeff Mansukhani caught a pass from Dixon for a touchdown.
St. Mary’s is 3-4 under first-year Coach Craig Rundle. The Gaels lost last week to Cal State Northridge, 48-24. Freshman quarterback Tim Rosenkranz, in only his second collegiate start, passed for 311 yards.
St. Mary’s, an NCAA Division II team, has beaten USD, a Division III team, all three times the teams have played. All three have been decided by six points or less, including a 21-20 St. Mary’s victory last season.
